Hi, Rachelle! Thank you so much for visiting my blog! Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your books, and your editing business?
Hi Hannah! Thanks so much for having me! I’m excited to be here today. A little about me: I just turned 26 years old, and I just celebrated my second wedding anniversary. My husband and I just bought and renovated our first home; that was an unforgettable experience. Some of my very favorite things include writing and reading. I get to combine those things when I work with writers struggling to make their words work for them. I’m able to come alongside them and guide them to the right word (or on a bigger scale, the right plot point!) that will transform their first draft into a polished book. I love working with writers, and I’m an author myself! I signed a three-book publishing contract right after college. My Steadfast Love series (from WhiteFire Publishing) is the tale of a Catholic maiden entrenched in the Dutch Revolution–and the redheaded Protestant man who brings her to love and faith. Fun fact: the man in my books shares a first name with my husband, even though I hadn’t yet met my husband when I wrote three books about a man with the same first name! Also, my first nonfiction book, Write Well, teaches you how to master the structure of writing.
What led you to becoming an editor?
I became an editor even before I became an author, which sounds backward until I explain that my love of writing and helping others write are intertwined. I adore coaching others to polishing their manuscript until it’s ready for publication.
What your favorite genre and why?
My favorite genre is inspirational historical romance. I adore being transported to different places and time periods. It’s the cheapest form of time-traveling!
How you do like to relax and recharge?
Reading! I especially enjoy occasionally reading a book outside my comfort zone. For instance, last weekend I picked up Reading People by Anne Bogel, all about personality. That’s not a normal genre for me to read, but I really enjoyed it!
What environment do you tend to write/edit in? And what is your dream environment?
My favorite space to write in is alone at my new home, in my PJ’s. Sometimes I have soft music playing, but sometimes only silence will do. That’s my dream environment, too!
What are some of your favorite things? (Raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens, etc.) Where do you draw inspiration?
I love that song in The Sound of Music! When I was a competitive gymnast, that was my floor music. ;) Some of my favorite things now include my husband, old books, freshly painted rooms, homemade bread, lemonade, summertime, quiet libraries, used bookstores, and time with my friends.
I draw inspiration from some of those things, but especially from my relationship with Christ. I want to write to inspire others to know God more.
